NYC Congestion Mitigation Plan to Potentially Disrupt Deliveries

Trucking operations across certain parts of New York City could be impacted beginning next year due to a newly proposed congestion mitigation plan. The plan would prohibit deliveries in some areas of the city between 7am and 10am as well as 4pm and 7pm. Click here to read more.

California Diesel Tax Increase 

Please note the planned diesel tax increase of 20 cents per gallon became effective in California on Wednesday, November 1. California follows six other states that have already increased fuel taxes this year including Indiana, Montana, New Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. Click here to read more.

CBP Makes Changes to Post Summary Corrections

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced this week that it has extended the deadline for filing post-summary corrections (PSC). A PSC must be filed within 300 days of the date of entry or 15 days prior to the scheduled liquidation date, whichever is earlier. CBP also announced that temporary importation bond entries can now be corrected, however, the entry type may not be changed on the PSC. Contact our customs compliance team to learn more.

Additional AD/CVD Investigations: Steel Fittings 

Steel fittings from China, Italy and Taiwan were added to the growing list of antidumping (AD) duty investigations by the U.S. Department of Commerce this week. As previously announced, Trans-Pacific Eastbound Trade carriers are planning a General Rate Increase (GRI) in the amount of $20/CBM, $40/MT, $900/20', $1,000/40', $1,000/40'HQ and $1,265/45', to become effective December 1, 2017. Ascent Global Logistics will continue to work diligently with carriers to mitigate this GRI in support of our clients.

Walmart Triples Online Products 

Walmart announced this week that it has tripled the number of products available on its website in preparation for the holiday shopping season. The world's largest retailer also said it will offer free two-day shipping for orders exceeding $35. Click here to read more.

Retail Home Delivery Trend Continues with Debut of CostcoGrocery

Grocery Home Delivery Trend Continues with CostcoGrocery 

Costco is the latest big-box retailer to introduce home delivery of groceries. The new service, CostcoGrocery, is free for orders over $75 and will provide Costco members access to about 500 nonperishable products and two-day delivery via UPS. Click here to read more. 

Statistic of the Week

The number of new orders for Class 8 trucks during the month of October, an increase of 65 percent year-over-year and the highest level reported since December 2014, according to ACT Research.
