Van Rates Hit 3-Year High

According to the DAT, van rates during the month of November hit a 3-year high, the highest monthly average recorded since June 2014. The national spot van rate average increased two cents to $2.09 per mile while the national flatbed average rate increased one cent to $2.30 per mile. Click here to read more.

Maersk's Acquisition of Hamburg Becomes Final

Maersk Line's acquisition of Hamburg Sud passed the final regulatory hurdle last week when the Korea Free Trade Commission became the 23rd jurisdiction to approve the transaction. Together, the two carriers will have a total capacity of 4.15 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) and a 19.3 percent share of the global fleet capacity. Click here to read more.

Albertsons & Instacart Team Up for One Hour Delivery

Albertsons announced last week that it will partner with Instacart to offer same-day delivery to customers in roughly 1,800 locations. Customers will be able to pay $5.99 per order or can subscribe to the service for $14.99 for 30 days of unlimited delivery. Click here to read more.

According to research by Business Insider Intelligence, mobile will be the hottest trend and most important channel for e-commerce retailers in 2018. The study projects that mobile sales will soon account for nearly half of all e-commerce sales. Click here to download the report.

The estimated loss of truck capacity and driver utilization due to the implementation of the ELD (Electronic Logging Device) mandate, according to the JOC.

As of December 18, truck drivers will be required to electronically log hours of service (HOS). It is projected that the daily mileage limit for truckers will be between 450 and 550 miles, if the driver averages between 45 and 55 miles per hour over 11 hours, factoring in congestion and delays.
