81 Percent Of Carriers Have Installed ELDs As Of February 2018

In February 2018, 645 carriers were surveyed by the DAT regarding the use of ELDs (Electronic Logging Device). Some of the key takeaways from this survey include:

  • 81 percent of carriers have already installed ELDs
  • 53 percent of carriers started using ELDs less than three months prior to the implementation of the ELD Mandate
  • 77 percent of carriers reported that one in five of their loads involve more than two hours of detention

Diesel Up For Seventh Straight Week, Increases To $3.171 Per Gallon

The average price of diesel fuel continued to rise for the seventh straight week. Diesel fuel has reached $3.171 per gallon, an increase of 60.6 cents per gallon year-over-year. See more here.

Halifax, Veracruz, Altamira Among Top-25 Ports Of North America

Double-digit growth through the ports of Halifax, Veracruz and Altamira helped Canadian and Mexican ports in 2017. Total volume through Mexican ports within North America's top-25 ports rose 11.6 year-over-year, followed by a 10.6 percent increase through Canadian ports.

Port Of Oakland Seeks To Build "Cool Port" Operations Facility

Cool Port Oakland calls for the creation of a temperature controlled transload and distribution facility. The plan's ultimate goal is to maximize use of the Port's rail, road and shipping networks in an effort to help increase import capacity. See more here.

Walmart Poised To Close $15 Billion Deal With Flipkart

The board of directors for Flipkart approved an agreement to sell 75 percent of the company to Walmart for approximately $15 billion. If completed, this deal could give Walmart the chance to expand its global supply chain presence. See more here.

How NAFTA Affects US Retail

According to a recent report, potential new tariffs due to NAFTA renegotiations could increase consumer costs by $5.3 billion, causing retailers' bottom lines to shrink by $15.8 billion each year. See the full report here.
