USTR Finalizes Tariffs On $200 Billion Of Chinese Imports

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released a list of approximately $200 billion worth of Chinese imports that will be subject to additional tariffs. These additional tariffs will go into effect on September 24, 2018 and will initially be subject to a 10 percent tariff. Starting January 1, 2019, these tariffs could increase up to 25 percent.

Public Hearing Process For List 3 Goods

On July 10, 2018, an initial list of 6,031 tariff lines was proposed for future Chinese imports. Changes to this proposed list were made in July and August. The USTR engaged in a public comment period over the course of six weeks, as well as a six-day public hearing period in August. Ultimately, USTR decided to fully or partially remove 297 tariff lines from the original proposed list.
